Departed on Thursday at 15:00 from the bay of Douarnenez Douarnenez #Douarnenez , Giancarlo rested in the lead group (along with Jorg Riechers, Gwénolé Gahinet and Bertrand Delesne) throughout the entire race, leading the group for a while after two hours from the departure and returning in head of thefleet at Pointe du Raz.
"It ’s been a race of speed," said Giancarlo arrival.
There were no major strategic options : the tactical game has developed over the details, the choices of the best sails, the minor choices like the one in Birvideaux where Giancarlo recover one position staying slightly further east.
The race has developed into a most intense weather conditions than those previewed : an initial wind of 15-20 knots from the south west has allowed the 73 sailors o get out quickly from the bay of Douarnenez Douarnenez #Douarnenez and go down to Birvideaux (south of the island Groix) with winds that have slowly calm down.
After the light winds found by the fleet in Birvideaux, the ascent to the second passage from the Point of Raz was accompanied by winds coming from south, south-east, which have gradually strengthened to 15-20 knots. On these winds, Giancarlo and Prysmian have been involved in a quick comeback, as commented by the race director Camille Gontier :
"At the beginning of the afternoon, the firsts boat accelerated very quickly ... The comeback of Giancarlo Pedote (Prysmian) is impressive, even if waiting. "
In the evening, a regime of 20-25 knots from the west accompanied the first prototypes to cut the finish line located in the bay of Douarnenez, with this order of arrival : Giancarlo Pedote, Gwénolé Gahinet (Watever / Nautipark) and Bertrand Delesne (Teamwork).
The regatta is valid for the "Championnat de France Promotion Course au Large en Solitaire - Mini 6.50", organized by the Fédération Française de Voile in collaboration with the French Mini class.
In the first test valid for the league (the Pornichet Sélect), Giancarlo got the second position.
