Michel Desjoyeaux, how much satisfaction does this win bring you ?
It’s a lot of happiness. We fought for every stage but we also had a lot of fun and I hope we’ve proven the absents to be wrong.
Where did you sealed your victory ?
It was definitely in the Alboran Sea. We were side by side with Groupe Bel who passed in first position at some stage and we managed to take off in a zone of little wind. We also made the difference with the navigation. Alone on this kind of boats, we can’t sail well because one man cannot optimise their capacities. There is some time passing between the decision being taken and the manoeuvre to be realized. In a crew, we do it instantly. In the past three or four days, we instated a turnover because the weather conditions allowed it but before, we were all very focused all the time. It’s a very nice experience. Jérémie Beyou loved it. In the Transat Jacques Vabre Transat Jacques Vabre #TJV2015 , we’ll be the two of us and we won’t be able to sail as well as with five people onboard.
What are your memories of this one-month long race ?
First of all, it’s the regatta on the Bosphorus in Istanbul. Next time it will have to be taken into account for the overall classification. I know that Cumali Varer prepares something new for the next edition. In the Aegean Sea, some locations appeal for another visit as a tourist. Then Sardinia, Bonifacio, Cape Corsica, Gibraltar... all this was thrilling. But honestly, Wolf Rock wasn’t attractive enough for us to back there on holiday.
What about the formula of the Istanbul Europa Race ?
The race to be contested by crew was a request by the IMOCA Imoca #IMOCA class. Even though some people have changed their mind after that, it’s a good formula. May I repeat it, we prove the absents to be wrong.
