Fastsailing from Holland presents au new Class40 Class40 #Class40 design : "The boat is developed as a custom design boat ; all the different design aspects will be discussed with the client to achieve a high performance vessel suited to the client desires."

The proposed vessel is a highly optimized racing machine, the hull will certainly feature the latest design trends for high speed reaching and downwind sailing. The hull will certainly have a deep chine and a very flat planning hull form, the use of a spray rail will be evaluated with the client.

The deck design is a key factor to improve the sailing experience, it will not only define the looks of the boat but it will contribute to an easy, simple and pleasant sailing. The use of a simple deck layout allowing a fine tuning of every component will allow the skipper a better use of his strengths in long distance regattas.

Our proposed deck design features a low windage characteristic, where all the ropes are "hidden" below deck in a watertight setup and sent to the central winch. The appendages design is certainly a very important part of the design ; different options will be evaluated together with the client to find the most suitable arrangement. Among the different choices the use of stem hang rudders will be evaluated.

The interior design must be as simple and light as possible in order to achieve the best possible performance. The proposed interior is a Open 60 arrangement, a central console with all the electronics and communications. In addition to this the boat will feature 4 berths, toilette, burner and sink.

The boat will be design and built to comply with all the Class 40 rules and security regulations.

Building Concept

The suggested building method will be achieved by the use of one off male moulds for the hull and female mould for the deck. This will allow the best balance between mould cost and finish. The alternative of producing a female hull mould is certainly possible but it will require more labour and this will have a direct impact on the labour cost. The mould frames will be built by the use of CNC cutting for an accurate finish.

The hull and deck will be laminated by hand consolidation to then be vacuum bagged heat curing will be done in different stages to improve the resin curing characteristics. All the structure and interior will be achieved in a light weight by the use of composite materials.

Building Materials

Thanks to our suppliers network we provide the best materials available to build our vessels. All the lamination materials : resin, fibbers, and consumables are from SP Gurit. For the boat finish we use International lightweight fillers, International paints and Awlgrip.

Equipment & Gear
