the 50’ trimaran "Prince de Bretagne" has broken her two starboard arms on Wednesday. The float disunited from the central hull. Fortunately, le crew was safe as her skipper Hervé Cléris did move the helm at time to avoid a capsize.
The skipper and Christophe Dietch, his co-skipper, were preparing the two handed Transat Jacques Vabre. Thei trimaran, designed by Irens and Cabaret was launched few weeks ago. She is one of the three new 50’ trimaran with Crêpes Whaou ! 3 (Franck-Yves Escoffier) and Actual (Yves Le Blévec).
"There was a lot of sea" said today Hervé Cléris. "Wind was blowing around 15-18 knots. then we heard a big crack during approximately 10 seconds and we saw the starboard float which broked its arms. Immediatly I pushed the helm and avoided the capsize. Then we sent a mayday and the SNSM from Camaret joint us."
The trimaran was towed toward the Breton port close to Brest as we can see on the photos. The team now tries to understand what caused the accident. "The boat is new, for sure, said Cléris. But we did make our qualification for the Transat Jacqeus Vabre in the bay of Biscay. The conditions were hard but we did not break anything. It was a good test. Now, we don’t just have to stick the different parts together. There is a long work to do. And we have to understand why it broke..."
