Trophée Jules Verne
Orange back on the starting line on Saturday
vendredi 1er mars 2002 –
The maxi-catamaran Orange’s capshrouds and shrouds, which they were still waiting on wednesday to be returned from the USA, have arrived and have cleared customs. Philippe Peche and Vladimir Dzalba Lyndis dispatched to Paris to collect them are now on the way back to Vannes with their precious load !
So the giant Orange will get her mast back as planned at 0800 on Friday 1st March at the Multiplast yard in Vannes.
The boat will leave Vannes at 1800 on Friday March 1st on the tide, to position herself off Ushant with a view to crossing the line between 0800 and 1400 on Saturday March 2nd.
Gilles Chiorri, boat captain and navigator confirmed this afternoon the Saturday morning weather window. Even describing it as "more comfortable and more wide ranging in time" ; therefore offering Orange’s crew some more room to manoeuvre than initially expected for crossing the Jules Verne Trophy start line (Ushant-Lizard point). It will remain however a little trickier to negotiate with a corridor of wind a little narrower than for the February 14th weather window that Olivier de Kersauson was able to take advantage of for his start at the helm of Geronimo. So they’re going to have to keep an eye on a wind system that looks like being less stable, "we must be responsive and opportunist on the water to get the best out of this weather system !"
